Flag Folding for Flag Break Ceremony

One of the important skills for new members to learn is all about the National Flag. The colors, meaning and flag handling. This teaches them national values. Unlike conventional Flag Rising, scouts practice Flag Break. The flag must be folded properly so that it unfolds or breaks when a string is pulled.

Proper folding is practiced repeatedly so that every member will have a chance at being on "Flag Duty". In any occasion when a national flag is used, during small gatherings to large Jamborees, every scouts now knows and understands the flag skills. Special thanks to Skipper Leslie Lim for volunteering to teach flag skills.

Scouting continues after Mid Year Exams

Troop 1012 have been practicing on-and-off since the February. Unfortunately with many events and holidays, the troop does its best to fulfill scout teachings for new members as well as standard scout routines. Now that Cikgu Rabiatul is back after maternity leave and we have a new scout leader / trainer, Skipper Lim, the troop will focus towards completing the scout investiture ceremony in August.

A total of 28 students from Sayyidina Husain Secondary School has been investitured into Troop 1012 Air Scout. The ceremony was like a graduation ceremony for all of the new scout members who did a lot of hard work and CCA classes to obtain the World Bureau Badge. Cikgu Rabiatul who was the Teacher-in-charge gave the "cabaran" and the new members recited the Scout Promise. The badges was awarded by Skipper Zakaria Mohamad Nor, who was the Commissioner of Air Scout Programs. The ceremony was witnessed by the Principal and Senior teachers as well as proud parents.

From here on, the students will enter the world of scouting, in participating with many camping, courses and obtaining some more badges and awards. The school would like to thank Brunei Muara Scouts Association as well as Brunei Scouts Federation for their support. We are now proud to be Troop 1012 and we are prepared!

LEARNING FLAG RISING AND SCOUT SYMBOLIC FRAMEWORK

Today new scouts learning the tradition of a flag break ceremony that is compulsory for the start of scout activities. Newly appointed patrol leaders learnt to make a flag pole using newly-learnt lashing and knots. The activity continues with horse-shoe and reciting the scout promise and law.

As promised to the principal, activities now are carried out indoors and the troop continued the class in the auditorium where they were given handouts on meanings in the Scout Logo and Scout Salute. They discovered the many of the scout logos and methods inter-relate and this was explained as some of the Symbolic Framework created by Word Scout Movement.

The class took notes and end of session was passed over to Cikgu Rabiatul, the teacher-in-charge of troop 1012. Everyone look forward to the next class to learn about History of Scouting with videos!
